Pin Up Beauty on A Shoe String Budget...Victory Rolls or, The Night Ginger defeated the "Do"

Today's beauty tips were supposed to be coming to you as part of a series of video links on the transformation from Leo to Ginger. Ginger ain't that good at technological doohickies so the video won't upload. Instead here for your delectation is a photo diary of my hilarious attempts at Victory Rolls....

 STEP 3: MAKE SURE PARTING IS STRAIGHT

 STEP 4: CREATE SECTIONS AT FRONT

 STEP 5: FLUFF THE PICTURE OF THE PIN CURL CLIP

 STEP 6: FORGET TO CRACK A SMILE ON COMPLETION OF SECTIONING HAIR!!!

 STEP 7:START BACK COMBING FIRST SECTION.

 BACK COMB ALLLLL THE WAY DOWN THE SECTION!

 AND SOME MORE!

 aAAAAAAND AGAIN

 STEP 8: SMOOTH SECTION WITHOUT BRUSHING OUT ALL YOUR BACK COMBING.

 STEP 9: TAKE YOUR THUMB AND LIFT THE SECTION FROM THE TOP OF YOUR EAR UP TO THE MIDDLE OF THE PARTING! AND PULL IT TAUGHT.

 STEP 10: GET FLAMING BLOODY ANGRY COS YOU CAN'T DO IT!!! LOL

 STEP 11: REMEMBER YOU CAN DO  IT AND ROME WASN'T BUILT IN A DAY

 STEP 12: NOT TRYING TO BUILD BLOODY ROME!!! ALL I WANT IS PRETTY HAIR.

 STEP 13: BLAH....MESSAGE "BIRD" ON FACEBOOK.

 STEP 14:GET TOLD OFF BY "BIRD".

 STEP 15: TRY AGAIN!!! ON THE OTHER SIDE

 SEEMS TO BE WORKING...

 YES THIS LOOKS MORE LIKE IT!

 STEP 16: SMUG SMILE!

 STEP 17: TELL THE OTHER SECTION OF HAIR WHO IS BOSS!

 STEP 18: GIVE IT SOME 'TUDE!

STEP 19: TAKE ANOTHER PICTURE BECAUSE, NOW T IS 1 AM AND YOU HAVE TO GET UP EARLY TOMORROW MORNING.

I hope you enjoyed this photo diary. I am still learning all things pin-up. I actually have no clue how I managed this since my head was up my arse the whole time!

Ginger's "KIT"

Very quickly I have learned that you need to be ready for a shoot at a moment's notice. Particularly if you, your photographer and his creative director (a.k.a fiancée) are all working full time and all have kids. The moment your diary looks like it is about to match with theirs', is the moment you realise your nail polish is chipped!

So here for your delight is Ginger's Kit...

Please excuse make-up-less pictures and hair scraped back...It is the eve of a very special day for my friends and their beautiful baby boy.

First off you need a big handbag. I bought my pop art themed handbag from www.myvintage.co.uk I can't find it on the site but if you need a big bag they got 'em in most styles. I particularly like the satchel style because you can wear them across body if you are travelling. Much more comfortable.

Then you need a diary and a pen and you need to use your diary religiously! So you need to lug it about in your handbag wherever you may go.

So in my bag and next to my diary I keep my...

O.K hold on Guys and Dolls I actually can't see my eyebrows in these pictures. One needs a face. But that's O.K because, not only can I practice my make up for tomorrow I can show you my before and afters.

AFTER

I won't lie, these victory roll styles are killing me. no fun at the moment because, none of the tutorials have amazingly thick hair in mind. Still not bad for my first frustration free attempt and if I were to pin curl the rest of the hair it would be super cute with a little flower behind my ear.

Anyway, I digress...

In my kit I have a brush like the one pictured above. £1 from Primark, you really can't go wrong!

A card of grips to match my hair colour, just over £1.00 from most supermarkets but you can get great big boxes of grips on www.amazon.co.uk  for very few pennies indeed.

Hairspray. Full size can, handbag size might be more comfortable to carry around but won't last long at all. I like Tresemme, Salon Finish, Extra Hold for day to day and Silverkrin for a shoot. Prices vary on these but I don't think you need to spend more than say, £2.00 on a can of hairspray.

Next up you need the basics to touch up your make up with. For example, the make up you see here is as follows....

PRIMER

 

FOUNDATION

 

CONCEALER =1 x bright to combat dark circles, 1 x light to cover blemishes and contour the outside edge of your lip line.

BLUSHER

LIPSTICK AND CORRESPONDING LIPGLOSS

 

A SELECTION OF YOUR MOST USEFUL MAKE UP BRUSHES!!!

AN EYESHADOW PALETTE WITH A GOOD MIX OF LIGHT, DARK AND SPARKLEY SHADES!

THE SHADE OF NAIL POLISH YOU ARE WEARING NEEDS TO BE IN YOU BAG ALONG WITH EMERY BOARDS AND HAND LOTION.

Other things I have handy are; deodorant that doesn't mark your pretty outfits, an eyelash curler, false lashes, false lash effect mascara (for when I have forgotten my lashes), phone charger, and a good notebook and set of pens.

I hope this has given you an insight into the world I have let myself in for this year. I of course love all of this fiddly stuff for I am a faffer of the highest order.

Ginger comes to play!

How easy it becomes to stand in front of someone with a camera. To discuss ideas on how you want to pose and what outfits you want to wear. AND...How fun it is to look back at your combined efforts, laugh at the ones you got terribly wrong and buzz at the ones you got so right!

So here it is...


Ginger's Guide To Posing for Pin-Up (a guide of trial and error).

1. Keep your make up simple but bold. I thought I had drawn my eyebrows on quite dark today but...

O.K they don't look too bad but I naturally have a lot of forehead going on (Bird calls this kind of forehead a fivehead) and I like to detract from that a little bit with my nicely arched eyebrows.

2. If your dress is at your knees or below, a shot of you with one foot coquettishly against the wall just makes you look like a flamingo. Unsurprisingly there are no shots of this.

3.Anything,,,ANYTHING Is a prop. I went and got my notebook, my specs and my battered biro from the car (by the way, nearly causing a traffic accident because someone was staring at me and not the road*) and got the perfect new profile pic for this very blog!

4. Music is your best pal when you are starting out! The right outfit and the right song makes a great picture.

5. Looking over your shoulder can cause dizziness, take a big break between shots.

Camera Roll...A vintage Valentine's Day...(even though I renounced valentine's day a few blogs back).

Today's Shoot has a certain theme... I have to say, I have loved every minute of it and that I can't wait for the next opportunity. Please do tell me what you think.

Ginger Pin Up Mondays or, how i decided to use todays blog to get up on my soap box!

Don't mind if I do! Stand up on my soap box that is.  I have been walking on air today after the response I got from yesterday's entry.
I made a difference! Albeit to a tiny percentage of the world in general, but that is enough. Isn't it?

To me it proved that true experiences and revelations are more beautiful than a handful of pictures.
I will still be posting pictures, don't worry. But maybe they will mean more to those of you that are following my adventures with me.

On June 21st which is the Summer Solstice, I would like to create a day for women and men but mostly women. In my mind this day would be about celebrating your beauty and strength!

More and more I have realised that we just don't do that enough. If ever! So, one day out of the year, the longest day of the year- we will celebrate our inner pin up. For this day our inner pin up is going to be ...Outer!

To show that you are celebrating this day with me, I would like you to wear something bright orange. A hair clip, a lipstick, a top or an accessory...it doesn't matter. I would also like you to compliment every woman that crosses your path. Make them smile, put a bounce in their step. Tell them why they are beautiful and strong!

It all sounds a bit twee in writing but  this would be a dream come true to me! So, tell your friends and family. get them to tell theirs. Change the world with me this summer solstice.

Ginger Wilde; Smart, Sexy, Inspirational...or, The Truth

What is it like to stand in front of a camera?
What is it like to give yourself permission to be self absorbed?
What is it like to let everyone know you think you are beautiful?

It's terrifying when you think about it all like that. As I was standing in the kitchen with my very best friends yesterday evening, our discussion turned to Self Esteem.

We, all 3 of us (whom now resemble the Witches of Eastwick) are pretty awesome and when we think of ourselves and what we do on a daily basis, what we are capable of -know without a doubt that we are FABULOUS!!!

So, why when we look at photographs of ourselves do we cry and moan about what we look like?
Some of it absolutely has to do with an impossible standard that has been set for us via the media, not just fashion magazines but bombarded with images from every type of media including, would you believe it...the radio?

Well, HANG ON! I can hear you shouting. I don't want to be a stick thin model, I don't want to walk the runways of the fashion capitols of the world! No. I don't either. When we look at photographs of ourselves and feel like crying it is mostly because the person we see in those pictures is not a true reflection of how we feel!
In our heads, we are super fit, multi-taskers! We took the world on today and we won!!! Because, we did all that though, we might have skipped reapplying some lipstick, or brushing our hair. We may have skipped a workout because, there wasn't enough time. In short, our energy has dimmed.

And this is what the camera picked up on. Because the camera only picks up the story of the moment.
It doesn't pick up how awesome you were today, how would it know that?  However smart your camera is it will never know that.

A good photographer will know.

My first test shoot with my photographer, Andy Gardiner of Much Love Photography (in Darwen, Lancashire) was such an emotional ride! It felt like forever, it took in reality a few minutes. We did it first thing in the morning with my daughter, Mini Wilde present. We had both had a good nights sleep and yet, there I was crying. Because I have never been comfortable when people call me beautiful, why would I declare it about myself?

So, we talked. Did I want to do this now? Would I like Mini, with me? He "prepped" in the back office for a bit and gave me a tissue and the result?

With no make up reapplication and with the power of a beautiful daughter who is smart and funny the result was this...

Here is my promise to you all and please consider what a stonking promise this is. In any shoot where skin is exposed and an ordinary passer by would see a stretch mark, that is what you will see. Of course I don't like them, no one does! But guess what? We all have something we HATE! Each of my concepts for sets will be focussing on something I don't like. With my photographer and his beautiful fiancée and my wonderful, Mini by my side. They won't be so bad anymore.

The next time someone tells me that I am beautiful, I will say Thank You. Then tell them exactly why I think they are beautiful too.
